How to Conduct a SWOT Analysis to Improve Your SEO Strategies?

Every time you search for something online, Google’s algorithm is at work, sifting through vast amounts of data to present the most relevant results. But how does your website fit into this complex puzzle? This is where Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) enters the scene. SEO involves a series of strategies designed to enhance your website’s visibility on search engines.

But before you jump into implementing an SEO strategy, it’s crucial to comprehend what you’re up against. While there are numerous approaches to doing this, one of the most effective methods is to conduct a SWOT analysis.

What is a SWOT Analysis for SEO?

SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. A SWOT analysis is a strategic planning tool that helps businesses identify their internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as external opportunities and threats. Successful companies or agencies often use it to gain insights into their current situation and develop plans for the future.

Strengths

Strengths are internal factors that give your business an advantage over competitors.

They can include things like:

Strong brand reputation

High-quality products or services

Skilled workforce

Proprietary technology

Loyal customer base

Understanding your strengths can help you capitalise on them and differentiate yourself in the marketplace.

Weaknesses

Weaknesses are internal factors that put your business at a disadvantage compared to competitors.

They can include things like:

Limited resources

Lack of technology

Poor location

High employee turnover

Weak brand reputation

Recognising your weaknesses can help you improve upon them or find ways to work around them.

Opportunities

Opportunities are external factors that your business can exploit to grow and improve.

They can include things like:

Emerging markets

Changes in regulations

Advances in technology

Changes in consumer behaviour

Competitor vulnerabilities

Identifying opportunities can help you develop strategies to take advantage of them.

Threats

Threats are external factors that could harm your business.

They can include things like:

Economic downturns

Increased competition

Changes in consumer behaviour

Changes in regulations

Natural disasters

Understanding threats can help you develop contingency plans to mitigate their impact.

Why is a SWOT Analysis Important for SEO Strategies?

Conducting a SWOT analysis is essential for developing an effective SEO strategy for several reasons:

Identifying strengths and weaknesses

A SWOT analysis helps businesses identify their internal strengths and weaknesses, which is crucial for developing an effective SEO strategy. For example, a business with a strong brand reputation may be able to rank higher in search results for relevant keywords, while a business with a poorly designed website may struggle to attract organic traffic.

Recognising opportunities and threats

A SWOT analysis also helps businesses identify external opportunities and threats that can impact their SEO efforts. For example, a business operating in a growing market may have more opportunities to rank for relevant keywords, while a business facing increased competition may need to adjust its SEO strategy to remain competitive.

Aligning SEO strategy with business goals

Conducting a SWOT analysis can help businesses align their SEO strategy with their overall business goals. For example, a business focused on expanding into new markets may want to prioritise SEO efforts that improve visibility in these markets, while a business focused on improving customer retention may want to focus on local SEO efforts that attract customers to its physical location.

Monitoring changes over time

A SWOT analysis is not a one-time exercise, but rather a tool that can be used to monitor changes in the business environment over time. By regularly assessing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats, businesses can adjust their SEO strategy as needed to remain competitive.

How to Conduct a SWOT Analysis for Your SEO Strategy?

Conducting a SWOT analysis for your SEO strategy involves 5 steps:

Step 1 – Preparing Your SWOT Analysis

To start your analysis, use pen and paper or a SWOT analysis template. Gather information on your business’s internal capabilities and external market conditions, involving key team members for better insights. A thorough SWOT analysis enhances decision-making and strengthens your SEO strategy.

Step 2 – Identify Internal Strengths

Begin by identifying your company’s internal strengths related to your current SEO strategy.

Consider factors such as:

Content Quality and Relevance: Is your content well-researched, up-to-date, and relevant to your audience? High-quality content can significantly improve your search rankings.

Technical SEO: Do you have a technically sound website? Factors like fast loading times, mobile-friendliness, and proper indexing all contribute to better SEO performance.

Brand Authority: Is your brand recognised and trusted in your industry? Websites with established authority tend to rank higher in search results.

Social Media Presence: Do you have an active and engaged social media following? Strong social media channels can help drive traffic to your website, improving your overall SEO.

Local SEO Efforts: If you’re a local business, is your local SEO strategy robust? Accurate Google My Business listings and positive customer reviews can enhance your visibility in local search results.

Step 3 – Identify Internal Weaknesses

Next, identify areas where your company is falling short in terms of SEO.

Consider aspects such as:

Inadequate Keyword Research: Are you using the right keywords? Insufficient keyword research can result in poor visibility for your target audience.

Weak Backlink Profile: Do you have a robust backlink profile? A lack of quality backlinks can hinder your website’s authority and search rankings.

Poor User Experience: Is your website user-friendly? High bounce rates and low dwell times can negatively impact your SEO.

Limited Mobile Optimisation: Is your website optimised for mobile users? With the increasing number of people using mobile devices for internet browsing, a non-mobile-friendly site can lose significant traffic.

Neglected SEO Updates: Are you regularly updating your SEO strategy based on the latest trends and algorithm changes? An outdated SEO approach can lead to declining search rankings.

Step 4 – Identify External Opportunities

Explore external opportunities that your company could leverage to enhance its SEO strategy.

These could include:

Emerging Trends and Topics: Are there emerging trends or topics in your industry that you can create content around? Producing timely and relevant content can improve your visibility in search results.

Changes in Consumer Behaviour: Have you noticed shifts in how consumers search for products or services like yours? Adapting your SEO strategy to align with these changes can boost your search rankings.

New Technologies: Are there new technologies or tools that can enhance your SEO efforts? Implementing advanced SEO tools can provide valuable insights and improve your website’s performance.

Partnership Opportunities: Are there potential partnerships or collaborations that can improve your SEO through backlinks or shared content? Collaborating with reputable companies can enhance your website’s authority.

Industry Events or Conferences: Are there upcoming industry events or conferences where you can showcase your expertise and improve your local SEO? Participating in such events can enhance your brand’s visibility and authority.

Step 5 – Identify External Threats

Finally, identify external threats that could impact your SEO strategy.

These might include:

Increased Competition: Is there a rise in competitors targeting your same keywords and audience? More competition can make it harder to maintain your current ranking positions.

Changes in Search Engine Algorithms: Are you aware of recent changes in search engine algorithms that could affect your SEO? Keeping up-to-date with these changes is essential for maintaining your rankings.

Economic Factors: Are there economic factors (like a recession) that could impact consumer spending and search behavior? Economic downturns can lead to changes in search behavior that impact your SEO performance.

Negative Publicity: Has your company received negative publicity that could impact its online reputation? Negative reviews or news can affect your search rankings and overall visibility.

Legal or Regulatory Changes: Are there any potential legal or regulatory changes that could impact your industry and its online presence? Changes in regulations can affect your business operations and online visibility.

If you’re looking for ways to take your business website to the next level, adding a blog is an incredibly powerful upgrade.

A blog is more than a diary. It’s a dynamic platform that can propel your brand into the spotlight, engage with your audience, and boost your site’s SEO rankings.

Ready to find out more?

In this post, we’ll cover five compelling reasons why a blog could be a game-changer for your business’s website…

1. Educational Content

With so many brands vying for attention, providing educational content through a blog can set you apart.

A blog is a stage where you can share your expertise, insights, and solutions to common problems your target audience faces.

Whether it’s a step-by-step guide, tips, or informative articles, a blog allows you to deliver value, establishing your business as a knowledgeable leader in your industry.

This not only builds trust but also nurtures a loyal audience who appreciates the wisdom you offer, inevitably drawing them closer to your services or products.

2. SEO Improvement

A big part of online success is visibility, and one way to enhance this is through search engine optimisation (SEO).

Having a blog filled with quality, relevant content increases the chances of your website ranking higher on search engine results pages (SERPs).

Each blog post is an additional page that search engines can index, broadening the likelihood of your website being found online. In fact, a blog increases your website’s chances of ranking higher in search by a whopping 434%.

By consistently publishing insightful blog posts, you’re not only providing value but also improving your website’s rankings on Google. The result? More website traffic.

3.Lead Generation

Did you know that 71% of B2B buyers consume blog content during their buyer journey?

A well-maintained blog can be a formidable lead-generation tool.

When visitors find value in your content, they are more likely to provide their contact information, subscribe to your newsletter, or even make a purchase. Furthermore, by addressing common issues and providing solutions in your blog posts, you attract a targeted audience already interested in what you offer.

Over time, these leads, nurtured through valuable content, can convert into loyal customers and fuel your business growth.

4. Brand Recognition

Establishing a strong brand identity is crucial – especially if you operate in a competitive sector.

A blog provides a unique platform to voice your brand’s values, culture, and expertise. Through consistent blog writing, you portray a reliable and knowledgeable image to your audience. Over time, this not only boosts brand recognition but also establishes trust.

As your readers share your content, your brand reaches a wider audience, further solidifying your position in the market.

A well-curated blog is not just a marketing tool. It’s a brand builder that fosters a connection with your audience, making your business more recognisable and trusted in the industry.

5. Customer Engagement

Want to build a loyal community around your brand?

A blog serves as a two-way communication channel where you can share updates and your audience can share their thoughts. By addressing comments and feedback on your blog posts, you create a dialogue with your readers, making them feel valued.

Additionally, your blog posts can be shared on social media, further fostering engagement and discussions.

In a nutshell, a blog humanises your brand, making interactions more personal and fostering a community that appreciates your business.

Choosing the Right Platform: Why WordPress Stands Out

If you’re unsure about which platform to use for your blog, WordPress is an excellent choice. The platform had around 60 million blogs by 2022, and is still growing.

It’s ideal for budget-conscious businesses, is easy to use, you have the freedom to modify and build, and there are a variety of plugins and themes.

Have we swayed you?

As we’ve explored, the benefits of having a blog are undeniable for businesses. It can be an indispensable asset for any brand aiming to thrive in the digital domain.

Through educational content, SEO improvement, lead generation, brand recognition, and customer engagement, a blog is more than just a collection of articles. It’s a powerful tool that can propel your brand forward.

Now it’s over to you. Are you ready to add a blog to your business’s website?

Like all industries, the web design world has unique lingo. One of the most important terms you’ll see thrown around is ‘white label’ web design. Want to know more about white label web design? You’ve come to the right place.

The Male VA specialises in white label web design for WordPress. My service allows agencies to offer in-house web development that’s professional, fully customisable and packed with features.

What is white label WordPress design?

The white label concept refers to purchasing a product or service, then rebranding it as an offering from a different company. A white label web design agency outsources the development process to a third party, then rebrands and markets the finished product as their own. All creative rights are signed over to the design agency. The agency also takes full responsibility for all client correspondence.

Web design isn’t the only industry that embraces the white label concept. It’s used across a wide range of industries, including supermarkets like Tesco and Sainsburys. You’ll see these grocery giants commission other companies to manufacture products, then package and label the items using their branding.

White label web design adopts the exact same concept. Except, instead of products like flour, sugar and milk, a white label web design agency hires a third party to develop beautiful, user-friendly websites.

The benefits of white label WordPress design

Looking to hire a designer for your white label web development agency? Here’s a few reasons why white label WordPress design is worth the investment.

Stay on top of the latest web design trends

The digital world is continually evolving, and it can be difficult for full-service agencies to keep up with the latest trends. Bringing a white label WordPress expert onto the team will allow your agency to keep your finger on the pulse of the latest design trends. Instead of scrambling to keep up and offering your clients a subpar product, white label WordPress design keeps you at the front of the pack.

Offer clients limitless customisation

Customisation is the key to a polished and professional website. With the right level of skill and expertise, anything is possible. This is where white label web development steps up. No more restricting your clients due to lack of in-house resources. Instead, you can empower them with free reign over the web design process. With a white label web design expert on your team, “yes” is always the answer.

Keep prices low and pass on the savings to clients

Price is a major factor when shopping for web design agencies. White label web development allows agencies to offer clients state-of-the-art websites at affordable prices. Competitive pricing is one of the best ways to attract new business and convert potential customers into paying clients.

Boost your business with white label web design

Ready to expand your horizons with white label web development for WordPress? Get in touch with The Male VA to discuss white label web design options for your digital agency. I’ll help to establish your reputation for sleek, fully optimised websites that attract high-value traffic, drive engagement and boost conversions.

Is your WordPress website feeling a little sluggish? Not to worry! The Male VA specialises in cutting the lag and supercharging WordPress websites. Wondering “why is my WordPress site so slow?” Below, I’ll take a closer look at some of the most common issues encountered by WordPress users, how to fix them, and why WordPress support packages can help.

Why is a fast website important?

If you’ve found yourself Googling “why my WordPress website is slow”, it’s time to act. Why? A slow website is one of the fastest ways to lose customers. According to Google, bounce rates increase to 32% as website load times rise from 1 second to 3 seconds.

Clearly internet browsers are an impatient bunch. Failing to keep up can have devastating consequences for businesses. As a general rule, you want your website and all associated pages to load in two seconds or less. Anything longer can frustrate browsers and send them into the arms of your competitors.

Now you know more about why speed is critical for websites, let’s answer your question about “why does my WordPress site load slowly?” There are several potential reasons why a WordPress website might load more slowly…

Why is my WordPress site so slow?

Web host issues

Your hosting provider can have a big impact on page load speeds. Bottom-of-the-barrel hosts may be cheap, but they often don’t have the backend infrastructure to load sophisticated websites and handle peaks in traffic. Paying a little more for a high-speed web hosting provider is a worthwhile investment. This is one of the easiest ways to avoid lag and improve conversion rates.

Outdated WordPress themes

Themes make website building much easier, but they can create issues further down the line. Why does my WordPress site take so long to load? Outdated themes that are no longer compatible with the latest WordPress versions can slow down page load speeds.

Non-optimised plug-ins

Not all plug-ins are compatible with certain websites. Wondering “why is my WordPress website so slow?” Non-optimised plug-ins can create drag and push your page load times above two seconds. Don’t worry. With highly customisable WordPress websites, you can usually tailor them to your heart’s content, so long as your plug-ins are optimised.

Script overload

“Why is my WordPress website slow?” Script overload is one of the biggest problems faced by amateur website designers. Too many scripts can clutter up your backend and send your page load times skyrocketing. Professional WordPress web design and support packages can make a real difference.

Put your WordPress website in the fast lane

Slow and steady doesn’t win the race when it comes to websites. To take your business to the next level, you need a website that’s not only beautiful and user-friendly, but fast too.

Want to stop asking yourself, “why is my WordPress site slow?” Get in touch with The Male VA today to discuss professional WordPress support packages. Choose from a range of solutions designed to troubleshoot issues with slow WordPress websites.

I’ll pinpoint the root cause of the issue and make the changes needed to get your website loading in double-time. This allows you to stop worrying about technical issues and focus on what you do best – running your business.

Do you suspect something fishy is happening behind the scenes of your WordPress website? Hacking is an unfortunate reality for all websites, whether you run a cleaning business, manage a local charity or sell handmade jewellery. If you think you’re dealing with a WordPress hack, this article is for you.

Read on to find out more about warning signs your WordPress site is hacked, how to troubleshoot security issues, and the benefits of WordPress support packages.

Unusual activity

Unusual user activity is one of the biggest red flags associated with WordPress hacks. Things to look out for include the creation of new user accounts, including moderator accounts with the power to make serious changes or access sensitive data.

Password change requests

Passwords are the first line of defence for your WordPress management account. They’re also one of the first things criminals target when attempting to hack WordPress websites. If you’ve received a password reset request email that wasn’t triggered by you, chances are a hacking attempt is unfolding.

Unregulated new content

Alarm bells should start to wail if unregulated new content appears on your WordPress website. Under no circumstances should content be published on your website without your permission.

Mistakes happen, so check with your website manager and other approved users before launching a full-scale hacking investigation. If no one can confirm where the content came from, it’s time to take a closer look at your WordPress security. Modifications to existing content is another WordPress hack red flag.

Unexpected drop in website traffic

An unexpected drop in website traffic can be a warning sign your WordPress site is hacked. For example, hackers may have installed malware that redirects browsers to a counterfeit website or opens unauthorised advertising pop-ups. Traffic slumps can also be caused by warnings from Google’s safe browsing tool, which detects the use of malware on your website. Google blacklists tens of thousands of websites every day to protect browsers. If yours is one of them, you need to act fast.

Bad links

WordPress hackers often resort to unauthorised data injection to redirect browsers to spam websites. They do this by installing a ‘backdoor’ that allows them to modify your website content and create unauthorised links.

Is my WordPress site hacked?

Worried about a WordPress hack? The best way to get to the bottom of the issue is to run a complete health and security check on your website. Hackers are a clever bunch and issues like data injection, unapproved new content and the installation of malware often fly under the radar for days, weeks and even months. Regular security checks carried out by an experienced professional help keep hackers at bay. This is the best way to protect your website, your clients and your reputation as a business.

WordPress support for small businesses

Hacking happens. Fortunately, I’m here to help. If you think you may have fallen victim to a WordPress hack, it’s important to act fast. My WordPress Support Packages are designed to help you get to the root of security issues and stop hackers in their tracks.

Give me a call on 07964 674 649 to discuss your options and kickstart your security check.

When you own a small business, having a professional website is essential. It helps customers to find your products and services – and it develops trust in your brand.

There are many different content management systems (CMS) available to manage your website, so it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. Fortunately, one option stands out. WordPress offers small businesses a whole host of useful features – covering everything from website security to ease of use. It’s no wonder WordPress powers over 43% of websites on the internet.

Still unsure if the platform is right for you? Not to worry! Read on to discover some of the main benefits of WordPress for small businesses…

Easy to set up and use

One of the main benefits of WordPress for small businesses is its usability. Set-up is simple – involving either a quick download and configuration with your hosting service, or an automatic installation from your hosting provider. Alternatively, a WordPress web designer can take care of website hosting and WordPress installation for you.

When you’re running a small business, you don’t have the free time to learn the ins and outs of a complex CMS. Fortunately, the WordPress dashboard and menu are simple and intuitive to use. Each section is clearly labelled, so you can find what you need easily. There’s also the option to tailor WordPress using plugins…

Vast selection of themes and plugins

When it comes to customisation, WordPress excels. You’ll have a myriad of themes at your fingertips to customise the design of your website – and with the help of a WordPress web designer, you can even create your own bespoke design.

Meanwhile, third-party plugins customise the functionality of your website. These plugins add new features – from SEO optimisation to security. For example, there are plugins like Divi, which support a more intuitive drag-and-drop web builder.

Search engine optimisation tools

One of the best benefits of WordPress for small businesses is the host of SEO tools at your disposal. From metadata to optimising images, it’s quick and easy to tailor your webpages for search engines using WordPress.

What’s more, there are plenty of plugins on hand to maximise your SEO success, including analysis for SEO and general readability through apps like Yoast SEO.

Robust security

WordPress provides robust protection from security issues. To shield the software from common security threats, the WordPress Security Team continuously works to locate and resolve any potential issues.

Plus, if you’d like to boost your security, there’s always the option to install additional plugins. These include firewalls, malware scans, spam filters, and two-factor authentication.

Fast loading times

Research from Google suggests that around 53% of mobile users will click away from a website if it takes more than three seconds to load. So, naturally, your website needs to load as quickly as possible. Fortunately, WordPress can be tailored for faster loading times.

Boosting WordPress loading speeds will be impacted by factors such as your choice of hosting service and plugins. There’s also the option of working with a professional developer to optimise your WordPress website speed.

WordPress web design and support

The benefits of WordPress are numerous, so it’s natural that many small businesses opt to use this platform. Although WordPress is intuitive to use, there’s still a learning curve to overcome. That’s why it helps to turn to an expert for guidance.

With vast experience creating over 100 WordPress websites, my expertise and know-how can help you get back to running your business. Whether it’s WordPress support or web design (or both!) that you need assistance with, get in touch today on 07964 674 649 or email mark@themaleva.co.uk to discuss your requirements.

If your WordPress site keeps going down, you might feel worried about the possible causes. Is it a traffic issue or something more sinister?

Arguably, there’s good reason to feel concerned. On top of financial costs, downtime can also lead to a drop in SEO ratings and, ultimately, a poor customer experience.

So, what could be causing the issue? There are several potential causes to consider…

Traffic surge

Whilst an increase in visitors to your website can be exciting, surges in traffic can have their downsides. In some cases, your website server may not be able to cope.

Aside from events like Black Friday, it’s difficult to predict when these traffic surges will occur. Review your reports to see if you can spot any patterns.

WordPress theme or plugin errors

Despite the great features they offer, plugins and themes are produced by third parties, so they can often be unreliable. Several associated issues could explain why your WordPress site keeps going down.

Abandoned plugins – If developers stop updating plugins and themes, they won’t be protected from some security issues. This can also lead to compatibility errors.

Conflicting plugins – Themes and plugins can also conflict with one another, potentially leading to errors.

Vet the plugins you download carefully, and ensure you install any updates for plugins or themes regularly.

Hosting issues

If a WordPress site keeps going down, in some specific cases, it can be a problem with WordPress itself.

Errors – An error with WordPress could lead to websites going offline.

Security issue – In an extreme case, WordPress could shut down its servers to defend against a security breach.

If your website crashes frequently, then it’s less likely to be caused by hosting issues.

Domain issues

Domain names provide a clear identity for your brand, but they need to be carefully maintained. There are two domain issues that could lead to your website going down.

Expired domain

If your WordPress site keeps going down, your domain name may have expired. Log in to your account and check that your domain is still active, and your payment information is up to date. Finally, make sure you’ve enabled auto-renew to prevent the issue from reoccurring.

Domain hijacking

In more serious incidents, your domain may have been hijacked. This occurs when hackers gain control of your domain, usually through poorly protected usernames and passwords. They can then use it for nefarious purposes, such as phishing campaigns.

If you suspect your domain has been hijacked, first contact your domain provider. If you are still encountering issues, you can then contact the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) for support in recovering your domain.

Plugin deletion

If you’re still wondering, “why does my WordPress site keep going down?”, you may have deleted a plugin that is important to the functionality of your website. Whenever you update your WordPress website, always ensure you’ve backed up your website data first. That way, you can quickly restore to your previous set-up.

Get your WordPress site back up and running

When your WordPress site keeps going down, it can be incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately, without real expertise, trying to resolve the problem yourself can often make things worse.

When people visit your site, they want to feel secure. So, it’s definitely not ideal when your WordPress website says ‘not secure’ in a little box next to the URL.

Don’t worry. This issue isn’t uncommon – and you’ve not done anything in particular to cause it. However, left ignored, it could drive away potential customers day after day.

Thankfully, The Male VA is on hand to help. Read on to find out what’s behind the ‘not secure’ message on your WordPress site – and how to get rid of it for good!

Why does my site say not secure?

To eliminate any problem, you need to know the root cause. So, let’s start by looking at why your site is supposedly not secure in the first place. Quite simply, it’s down to your SSL certificate (or a lack thereof).

SSL stands for Secure Socket Layer. It’s basically a file that’s installed on your site (or server) which ensures that all interactions between a browser and the server are encrypted.

As well as being a standalone certificate, SSL is part of the HTTPS protocol which ensures all data is encrypted. When your site has SSL certification, it will more than likely be approved for HTTPS too. This will be displayed before your website’s address in the URL, showing visitors that their session is encrypted and secure.

To sum up – in the vast majority of cases, your WordPress site will say ‘not secure’ because it doesn’t have HTTPS. And it doesn’t have HTTPS because you haven’t got an SSL certificate.

How to fix your WordPress website

To get rid of the ‘not secure’ message, you simply need to install an SSL certificate on your WordPress site. This will add an HTTPS tag to your URL and show visitors that everything is safe and secure.

Installing an SSL certificate on your site used to be pretty technical, difficult, ecs and time-consuming. The good news is that things have changed. Nowadays, there are plenty of trusted providers and plugins that help with the process.

The first port of call is your web host, many of which provide SSL certificates for free or at a small charge. They’ll usually be accessible through the security section of your site’s back-end dashboard.

If your host doesn’t provide it, there are plenty of third-party vendors offering SSL certificates which can then be uploaded to your site. The easiest way is using a purpose-built plug-in. Once installed on your site, the plug-in with guide you through the process to activate your SSL.

Need a little help?

It’s much simpler than it used to be to install an SSL certificate. But it can still be challenging for the typical site owner. If your WordPress website says not secure and you’re still a little unsure of how to fix it, feel free to contact The Male VA.

Having built over 100 websites using WordPress, I’m fully equipped to resolve any issues with your site’s security – as well as any other site WordPress support, maintenance, and optimisation requirements.

WordPress is the most popular Content Management System (CMS) in the world, powering over 40% of all websites on the internet. With thousands of themes and plugins available, WordPress can be customized to suit any website’s needs. However, not all plugins are created equal. In this article, I’ll be sharing my top seven WordPress plugins that I can’t live without, and why you should consider adding them to your website.

Elementor Pro

Elementor is a drag-and-drop page builder that makes designing beautiful and responsive websites a breeze. With Elementor Pro, you get access to a vast library of pre-made templates, widgets, and blocks that can be customized to your liking. You can also create your own templates and save them for future use. Elementor Pro also offers advanced features such as custom fonts, motion effects, and integrations with popular third-party tools. Elementor Pro is a must-have plugin for anyone looking to design a professional-looking website without needing to hire a developer.

ManageWP

If you manage multiple WordPress websites, you know how time-consuming it can be to update plugins, themes, and WordPress itself. ManageWP is a centralized dashboard that allows you to manage all of your WordPress websites in one place. With ManageWP, you can update plugins and themes, run backups, monitor website performance, and even publish new content across all of your websites simultaneously. ManageWP is a time-saving plugin that any WordPress user can benefit from.

ShortPixel Image Optimizer

Images are an essential part of any website, but they can also slow down your website’s load time if not optimized correctly. ShortPixel Image Optimizer is a plugin that compresses and optimizes your images to ensure they load quickly without sacrificing image quality. ShortPixel supports various image formats, including JPG, PNG, and GIF, and can optimize images up to 90% without noticeable quality loss. With ShortPixel, your website will load faster, and your visitors will have a better user experience.

WP Fastest Cache

Caching is an essential technique used to speed up website load times. WP Fastest Cache is a caching plugin that creates static HTML files of your website’s pages and posts, which are then served to visitors instead of generating the content dynamically every time. WP Fastest Cache also includes options to minify HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files, which further reduces page load times. With WP Fastest Cache, your website will load faster, and you’ll see improvements in search engine rankings and user engagement.

RankMath SEO

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is crucial for driving traffic to your website. RankMath SEO is an all-in-one SEO plugin that helps you optimize your website for search engines. RankMath SEO includes features such as keyword optimization, Google Schema markup, XML sitemap generation, and social media integration. RankMath SEO also includes a content analysis tool that suggests improvements to help your content rank higher in search results. With RankMath SEO, you can improve your website’s visibility in search engines and drive more organic traffic.

All-in-one WP Migration

Moving WordPress websites can be a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. All-in-one WP Migration is a plugin that allows you to export your entire WordPress website, including the database, plugins, themes, and media files, into a single file. You can then import this file into another WordPress installation, making website migration a breeze. All-in-one WP Migration is a time-saving plugin that can save you hours of work when migrating your website.

Antispam Bee

Spam comments can be a nuisance for website owners. They not only clutter your website’s comment section but can also harm your website’s SEO. Antispam Bee is a plugin that blocks spam comments and protects your website from spam bots. The plugin is easy to set up and provides a variety of spam-blocking options.

In summary, these seven WordPress plugins are essential for any website owner who wants to manage their website efficiently!

My most exciting project to date, George Collins at CFP Lottery & Raffles Ltd commissioned me to complete a brand refresh for the company. The brief included a new website, logo and change of tone of voice for all web copy. We also put together a 3-month content plan to include written copy and video content that will really set CFP apart from the rest of the field.

Company Background

CFP turned 40 years old this year and have been providing services to the charity sector exclusively since their inception. Now specialising in Raffle, Lottery, Response Handling and Marketing Strategy, they’ve a long history of delivering exceptional services in the sector for a long time.

In 2019 CFP wanted to have a little shake-up of image. Bringing their (very) dated website and logo into the 21st century was key to the new image, as was the tone of voice changes we made.

Here’s what the site looked like when we started…

The Process

It started with a full-day session on-site to discuss the aims of the project. We went into detail on ideal customer avatars, desired tone of voice, and analysed a number of competitor & non-competitor websites for inspiration.

I spent time discussing options for content creation and SEO which explored video content, a potential podcast and plenty of written copy!

A discovery workshop wouldn’t be complete without post-it notes and we used plenty to map out the “X-factor” elements of the new website. Going over the potential logic steps was hard work after lunch that’s for sure!

Key outputs included a clean and modern website with an “agency” feel to it; the logo should represent the core service elements of the CFP business model; and something with a wow-factor to it… a switching service that mirrored that of a utility company.

The copy discussion was very interesting and we decided to go with clear and bold copy. The decision to change the website to wearecfp.co.uk from cfpdata.co.uk fell into our “agency feel” goal and formed the basis to the rest of the site’s tone of voice.

Phase 1

The following weeks involved me creating 3 mock-ups for the website design and then running through them with the team at CFP. This was exciting and nerve-racking as I’m usually dealing with one-man bands and so a single decision maker – thankfully feedback was good and the elements from the 3 mock-ups were decided on and we moved on to phase 2.

Phase 2

The next phase involved creating a more well-rounded demo site to demonstrate how all the elements would work together in a live environment. We drafted some copy to get as close to a “real” site as possible and then went through another round of feedback.

I started to build out the launch & switch journeys to get the logic working… not without difficulty.

Phase 3

With all elements signed off the final build was fairly straightforward for the website itself. It was simply a case of pulling together the agreed parts to build out the site, replacing placeholder text with final copy along the way.

The time-consuming part at this stage was the switch journey and took lots of back and forth to get everything just right. We actually decided to launch the website without both the launch and switch so we could stagger any announcements and generate more interest along the way.

I also added live chat and chatbot functionality to better qualify leads for CFP. This allows some simple interactions with the website users to determine how best they can help them. It’s really powerful!

The Result

A very happy client.

You can view the site in all it’s glory here: www.wearecfp.co.uk – do test out the journeys we created, they’re pretty cool!

Here’s what the homepage looks like now…

You’ll notice a nice clean layout, much improved logo and some clear copy outlining exactly who CFP are and what they offer.

As you go through each page of the site you’ll notice subtle changes to the branding. Creating separate sub-brand logos and colours wasn’t something initially briefed, but once mocked up, went down really well and made the final cut.

New logo:

It’s my biggest and proudest project to date.
